Nature and affinity: It is bitter in taste and cold in nature. Its therapeutical action is related to the channels of the Spleen, Stomach, Large Intestine, Liver and Pericardium.
Main Active Ingredient: Emodin (C15H10O5), chrysophanol (C15H10O4)
Bombyx Batryticatus
Origin: Stiff Silkworm is the dried body of the 4~5th stage larva of Bombyx mori L. (Fam. Bombycidae) died of infection (or artificial infection) of Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) Vuill.
Nature and affinity: It is salty and pungent in taste, and neutral in nature. Its therapeatic effect is related to the Channels of the Liver and Lung and Stomach.
Semen Persicae
Origin: Peach Seed is the dried ripe seed of Prunus persica (L.) Batsch or Prunus davidiana (Carr.) Franch. (Fam. Rosaceae).
Nature and affinity: This drug is bitter and sweet in taste and neutral, and is distributed to the Heart, Liver and Large Intestine Channels.
Fructus Forsythiae
Origin: Weeping Forsythia Capsule is the dried fruit of Forsythia suspense (Thunb.) Vahl (Fam. Oleaceae).
Nature and affinity: It is bitter to the taste, slightly cold in nature, and distributed to the Heart and Small intestine Channels.
Main Active Ingredient: Forsythin (C29H36O15)
Rhizoma Coptidis
Origin: Colden Thread is the dried rhizome of Coptis chinensis Franch., Coptis deltoidea C. Y. Cheng et Hsiao or Coptis teeta Wall. (Fam. Ranunculaceae), commonly known as “Wei-lian”, “Ya-lian” or “Yun-lian”, respectively.
Nature and affinity: It is bitter in taste and cold in nature. Its therapeutic action is related to the Channels of the Heart, Spleen, Stomach, Liver, Gallbladder and Large intestine.
Rhizoma seu Radix Notopterygii
Origin: In provinces of Sichuan, Gansu and Yunnan, China
Nature and affinity: Pungent and bitter; warm
Radix Paeoniae Rubra
Origin: Inner Mongolia and Sichuan, China
Nature and affinity: Bitter; cold
Poria
Origin: Indian Bread is the dried sclerotium of the fungus, Poria cocos (Schw.) Wolf (Fam. Plyporaceae).
Nature and affinity: This drug is sweet and tasteless in taste and neutral in nature, and is distributed to the Heart, Spleen, Lung Spleen and Kidney Channels.
Eupolyphaga seu Steleophaga
Origin: China
Nature and affinity: It is salty in flavour and cold in nature, acting on the liver channel. Being salty for softening and resolving hard mass, it acts on the liver channel, the blood division, with the function of relieving blood stasis and lumps.
