Disease Description: Hookworm disease is an illness caused by one of two types of S-shaped worms that infect the intestine of humans (the worm's host).Hookworm is not spread directly from one person to another. It is transmitted when the microscopic hookworm eggs in human or animal feces (stool) are deposited on the ground, hatch and develop into tiny larvae. People become infected when the larvae penetrate the skin, usually of the foot.
