Disease Description: Amyloidosis is the term used for a group of diseases where one or more body organs accumulate various insoluble proteins (amyloid) in amounts to cause dysfunction of the organ system. Organs often affected include the heart, kidney, gastrointestinal tract, nervous system and skin. Amyloidosis of the skin is called cutaneous amyloidosis. In this condition, amyloid or amyloid-like proteins are deposited in the dermis layer of skin. Amyloid is a pathologic proteinaceous substance, deposited between cells in a variety of tissues and organs as a result of a many different disease processes.

Nature and affinity: The herb is pungent and sweet in flavour, slightly warm in nature and acts on the urinary bladder, liver and spleen channels. Slightly warm, not dry, sweet, mild and not drastic in effect, and pungent for dispersing wind.
Main Active Ingredient: cimicifugoside (C37H54O11) 5-O-methylvisamminol (C22H28O10)
Cortex Moutan Radicis
Origin: Anhui and Shandong provinces, China
Nature and affinity: Bitter and pungent; cold
Periostracum Cicadae
Origin: Cicada Slough is the slough of Cryptotympana pustulata Fabricius (Fam. Cicadidae) dropped off the nymph during emergence.
Nature and affinity: It is sweet to the taste, cold in nature, and is distributed to the Lung and Liver Channels.
Herba Schizonepetae
Origin: Fiangsu, Zhejiang and Fiangxi, China
Nature and affinity: The herb is pungent in flavour, slightly warm in nature and acts on the lung and liver channels.
Main Active Ingredient: The main active constituents of schizonepeta are understood to be the essential oils, which comprise about 1.8% of the tops and are dominated by the monoterpene aldehydes menthone and pulegone.
Radix Sophorae Flavescentis
Origin: Lightyellow Sophora Root is the dried root of Sophora flavescens Ait. (Fam. Leguminosae).
Nature and affinity: It is bitter to the taste and cold in nature, and is distributed to the Heart, Liver, Stomach, Large Intestine, Urinary Bladder Channels.
Main Active Ingredient: matrine (C15H24N2O)
Herba Hedyotis Diffusae
Origin: South of Changjiang river.
Nature and affinity: Bitter and sweet inflavour, cold in property, acting on the heart, liver and spleen channels.
Radix Cynanchi Paniculati
Radix Cynanchi Paniculati: Paniculate Swallowwort Root is the dried root and rhizome of Cynanchum paniculatum (Bge.) kitag. (Fam. Asclepiadaceae).
Origin: Jiangsu, Anhui, Hebei, Hunan.
Other Names: Paniculate Swallowwort Root Extract, Radix Cynanchi Paniculati Extract, Cynanchum paniculatum (Bge.) kitag. Extract.
 
Radix Polygoni Multiflori
Origin: Fleeceflower Root is the dried root tuber of Ploygonum multiflorm Thunb. (Fam. Polygonaceae)
Nature and affinity: Bitter, sweet and astringent in taste, warm in nature, it is therapeutically related to the Channels of the Liver, Heart and Kidney.
Bombyx Batryticatus
Origin: Stiff Silkworm is the dried body of the 4~5th stage larva of Bombyx mori L. (Fam. Bombycidae) died of infection (or artificial infection) of Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) Vuill.
Nature and affinity: It is salty and pungent in taste, and neutral in nature. Its therapeatic effect is related to the Channels of the Liver and Lung and Stomach.
